Gardaí have prevented a Limerick solicitor, John Devane, from serving a summons on the Taoiseach as he left a function in Dromoland Castle in Co Clare.
Mr Devane is acting for Dublin woman, Jennifer Hannon, and Martin McGowan from Sligo who are to appear at Shannon District Court next month, charged with causing criminal damage and trespass at Shannon Airport on Good Friday last.
Mr Devane has said he is issuing witness summonses to both Bertie Ahern and the Minister for Defence, Michael Smith, to appear in court.
Mr Devane this afternoon criticised the gardaí's action, saying it was appalling treatment.
He confirmed that he has issued a complaint about the incident to the Garda Complaints Board.
He said he intended calling for a bench warrant for the arrest of both Mr Ahern and Mr Smith if they failed to come to the court on 12 June.
