The former Dublin Assistant City and County Manager, George Redmond, has pleaded not guilty at the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to two charges of corruption while in office.
Mr Redmond's trial before a jury is expected to get underway when preliminary legal issues have been dealt with by Judge Michael White.
The charges relate to the sale of a right of way in Palmerstown, Co Dublin.
It is alleged he received a gift of money as an inducement or reward in relation to the land sale.
When the charges were put to the 78-year-old, he replied 'Oh I plead not guilty'.
Mr Redmond is represented by Patrick McEntee, SC, and the trial, when it opens before the jury, is expected to last 10 days.
