Man shot dead by PSNI in County Antrim

A man was shot and killed in the North tonight when police opened fire on a car which allegedly struck officers after failing to stop in County Antrim.

A second man was injured in the shooting which happened at Crumlin Road, Ballinderry Upper, near Lisburn.

Reports say at least two police officers were struck by the car which had been seen driving suspiciously.

A spokesman for the Police Service of Northern Ireland said shots were then discharged by police and the two men were injured, one of them critically.

He later died after being taken to the Lagan Valley Hospital in Lisburn.

The condition of the other man was not known.

The Office of Police Ombudsman Nuala O'Loan is to carry out an investigation.
