Claims of UDA ceasefire break denied

Loyalist representatives have denied claims that the Ulster Defence Association's ceasefire may have been broken.

Police confirmed the paramilitary organisation was one of the groups under investigation for a firebomb attack in Coleraine in County Derry earlier this week.

A 22-year-old woman had to jump from the window of her house to escape the flames caused by the attack.

Representatives of the UDA-linked Ulster Political Research Group have said the paramilitary organisation's halt to all military operations was still in place.

However, the SDLP Assembly member for East Derry, John Dallat, said he suspected the incident did constitute a breach of the UDA ceasefire and he had written to the Northern Secretary about the matter.
