€2m cut from Foras budget to be returned

Sinn Féin Assembly member Bairbre de Brún has told Nuacht TG4 that the €2 million cut from Foras na Gaeilge's funding in last December's budget would be returned to the Foras.

Ms de Brún said that this commitment was given to the parties at the Hillsborough talks on Monday by the Irish and British Governments.

However, Foras na Gaeilge in Dublin said this morning that they have not yet been informed of any changes to its funding.

Neither the Department of Foreign Affairs nor the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs would comment today.

The allocation to Foras na Gaeilge was cut by 11% or €2 million in the budget, and these cuts were passed on to all the organisations which are in turn funded by Foras.
