Cork woman pleads guilty over abduction

A Cork woman has pleaded guilty in relation to the abduction of six-year-old Deirdre Crowley, who was found shot dead beside her father, Christopher Crowley, in Clonmel in August 2001.

Regina Nelligan from Fermoy, County Cork, pleaded guilty at Clonmel Circuit Court to removing Deirdre Crowley from the lawful control of her mother, Christine O'Sullivan, between 3 December 1999 and 31 August 2001.

33-year-old Nelligan was remanded on continuing bail to Clonmel Circuit Court on Thursday when there will be further deliberations regarding sentencing.

Christopher Crowley, who was separated from his partner Christine O'Sullivan was seeing his daughter Deirdre by agreement on the first weekend of December 1999.

However he did not bring Deirdre back to her mother as arranged and both of them went missing for over a year and a half.

There were many sightings and leads but it was not until the last day of August 2001 that Gardaí discovered Mr Crowley and his then six-year-old daughter in a rented house on the outskirts of Clonmel.

However minutes after the discovery, Christopher Crowley shot his daughter and then killed himself.
