New research on depression stigma

New research indicates that many people suffering from depression do not seek medical help because of the social stigma attached to the condition.

Independent analyst, Datamonitor, says that more than a fifth of people suffering from depression attempt suicide before their condition is diagnosed. A further 47% think about killing themselves.

The findings are based on interviews with more than 200 psychiatrists in America, Japan and five western European countries.
