The first contact has been made with a remote South Pacific island that was hit by a tropical cyclone more than nine days ago.
Relief workers who landed on the island of Anuta said there were no reports of casualties among its population of 300.
The island was the last of three in the Solomons group to be reached by rescue teams concerned for the safety of the inhabitants.
They found that no-one had been killed or injured by the storm on any of the three, in spite of tidal waves 30 feet high and winds of up to 190 miles an hour.
