The Millennium Spire, due to be erected in O'Connell Street in Dublin later this week, will not be leaving Dungarvan in County Waterford on schedule. The Spire - or Spike as it is known - was made by an engineering firm in west Waterford town.
Final checks and tests on the Spire, which is in sections at present, are being conducted in Dungarvan.
When the Spire leaves Dungarvan, a number of other vehicles will form part a large convoy, which will be led by a Garda escort. The journey is expected to take eight to ten hours.
Transportation officials say that because of traffic restrictions in Dublin, the convoy has to reach O'Connell Street by 7am tomorrow.
If there is any chance the convoy will not reach O'Connell Street by 7am, the convoy will not leave tonight and the starting time will be refixed for tomorrow evening.
