Flood Tribunal evidence on Draft Development Plan

The Flood Tribunal has begun hearing evidence about the preparation of the Draft Development Plan for Dublin in the early 1990s.

The Tribunal is conducting a detailed examination of changes to the draft development plan proposed by elected councillors.

It has been alleged that some councillors were paid to support re-zonings which would benefit landowners.

The inquiry has also heard that some councillors had to be called from Conway's pub in Parnell Street to return to the council chamber for voting on changes to the development plan.

Counsel for the Tribunal, John Gallagher, said three minute breaks were taken for roll calls but often it was to allow for councillors to be located in the pub.

Lawlor sends complaint to Flood

In a separate development, former Fianna Fáil TD, Liam Lawlor, has written to the Flood Tribunal to complain about media coverage of allegations against him.

Mr Lawlor claims media reports last week did not accurately reflect the contents of the opening statement.

He referred to language used in reports last Thursday and Friday which detailed allegations that he had an interest in lands currently under investigation by the Tribunal.

The Tribunal has agreed to read his letters of complaint into the record.
