Seven Gardaí are to face charges in relation to assault, following disturbances at a Reclaim the Streets march in May last.
Garda authorities have confirmed that directions had been received from the DPP that the seven Gardaí face the charges.
Criminal proceedings began yesterday and the Gardaí, who are all members of the Dublin Metropolitan Region, have been confined to indoor duties pending the outcome of the proceedings.
The Reclaim the Streets march took place on 6 May last. Following numerous complaints about Garda behaviour, an investigation was carried out by Assistant Commissioner Tony Hickey.
