Man injured in Strabane attack

A 42-year-old man was injured in a paramilitary-style attack in Strabane, County Tyrone, last night.

Police say a gang of up to 13 men forced their way into the victim's home in the Carlton Drive-area and shot him in both elbows and both knees. He also sustained cuts and bruises.

The SDLP Assembly member and chairman of Strabane District Council, Eugene McMenamin, called it a "barbaric act", which he said ought to be condemned by all right-thinking people.

He said summary justice and kangaroo courts had no place in our society and the sooner the Good Friday Agreement was back on track, the sooner this type of incident would be eradicated.

Earlier in Belfast, a 39-year-old man was shot in the leg in a suspected paramilitary attack in the Shankill Road-area.
