A warrant has been issued for the arrest of the celebrity chef Conrad Gallagher.

Mr Gallagher was due to appear at the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court today in connection with the charges relating to the alleged theft of three paintings from the Fitzwilliam Hotel in Dublin.

Counsel for Mr Gallagher told the court that he was not expected to appear.

In evidence, Detective Garda Angela Twyford said Mr Gallagher was aware of his pending court appearance.

The chef, who ran the Peacock Alley restaurant at the Fitzwilliam Hotel, is now living in the United States.

Almost two weeks ago he failed in an attempt to stop his trial from going ahead. The court heard then that he had married and was applying for US citizenship.
