The Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment has confirmed it is suspending the issuing of work permits to lap dancers in Ireland, pending a review of policy in the area.
A spokesperson for the Department said the decision was taken after a number of complaints were made to Gardaí.
The complaints were said to relate to allegations of mistreatment and exploitation of lap dancers by their employers.
