Two people quizzed in missing girls probe

A 28-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman have been questioned by police investigating the disappearance of the two English schoolgirls, Jessica Chapman and Holly Wells.

The announcement was made at a police conference in Soham this afternoon.

A search of the couple's house as well as of Soham Village College is being carried out. The search has also been widened to include St Andrew's Primary School, which Jessica and Holly attend. A senior police source said the search was expected to take days rather than hours.

The couple were questioned at separate police stations elsewhere in the county.

The police announcement followed a plea by the girls' parents earlier today calling for their safe return.

Speaking at a news conference, both sets of parents spoke of how they have focused on a glimmer of hope that they will see their children again. They also said that they had full confidence in the police investigation into the girls' disappearance.

Jessica's parents again urged anyone holding the girls to let them go.

The Manchester United football squad, the girls' favourite team, has made a recorded plea for help in finding them. The girls were wearing the team's strip at the time of their disappearance.
