Gardaí investigating an assault on two Chinese men in Dublin city centre this morning have arrested two men.

One of the men is in his early thirties and the other is in his mid-twenties. They are being held at Pearse Street Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

They can be held for 12 hours before being released or charged.

Meanwhile a 50-year-old man remains in a critical condition in St James’s Hospital, while a man in his 30s was released from hospital earlier.

The details of the incident are still unclear, but it is known that the attack took place in the Temple Bar area of the city at about 2am this morning.

Witnesses said a large number of people were involved in a row in the Fownes Street area. No arrests have been made, but a Garda investigation is under way.
