Haughey's former home dispute settled

An out-of-court settlement has been reached in a case involving land surrounding a house once owned in County Sligo by Charles Haughey.

It involved proceedings to eject farmer David Warren of Ardtrasna, Ballinful, from nine acres which he claimed he was entitled to use under an agreement made with the former Taoiseach in 1972.

Mr Warren said that in return for working as a caretaker, he had been allowed to graze his cattle on the land and that he had exclusive possession of the land since 1986.

The land had been transferred to Larchfield Securities in 1980. Mr Warren objected when the house at Lislarry was put on the market.

The details of the settlement reached on Tuesday are subject to a confidentiality clause.
