Current and former officials of the telecommunications company, WorldCom, are to be subpoenaed to appear before a United States Congressional Committee next month. They will be asked to explain the firm's alleged multi-billion dollar accounting fraud.
Those ordered to appear before the House Financial Services Committee, on Monday week, include the Chief Executive John Sidgmore and his predecessor Bernard Ebbers.
The American Treasury Secretary, Paul O' Neill, has called for those behind the scandal to face the full rigours of the law.
