Judge appointed for North 'collusion' allegations

A judge has been appointed to conduct an investigation into allegations of collusion by security forces in Northern Ireland in a number of murders, including those of Pat Finucane and Rosemary Nelson.

The appointment of Mr Justice Peter deCarteret Cory, a retired member of the Supreme Court in Canada, was announced by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Brian Cowen.

The move follows a commitment made by the Irish and British Governments following the Weston Park talks last summer.
