The former Lord Mayor of Dublin and Junior Minister, Michael Keating, has paid the Criminal Assets Bureau €250,000 for unpaid tax.

The Bureau has been investigating Mr Keating's affairs for more than three years and had sent him a tax assessment for more than €1m.

Mr Keating sold his house in Castleknock in Northwest Dublin for almost €1.5m to pay the tax bill.

Michael Keating was also named in a British court two years ago as a partner in crime in a £20m sterling VAT fraud and was arrested five years ago with bank drafts made out to a Dublin criminal.
