Relatives of those killed on Bloody Sunday walked out of the inquiry into the shootings this morning, as two police witnesses began giving evidence from behind wooden screens.
Two officers who were on duty on the day that 13 men were shot by British Paratroopers addressed the Saville Inquiry in Derry from within a specially-constructed wooden box. A third officer who gave evidence today did not apply to be hidden from view.
The relatives of the dead, who have watched proceedings since the inquiry began two years ago, left the Guildhall in protest at the screens, which prevented the public from seeing their faces or their demeanour. They said they will boycott the proceedings for the one day.
