Terminally-ill British woman Diane Pretty has lost her case at the European Court of Human Rights to allow her husband to help her commit suicide without fear of prosecution.
Mrs Pretty, who is 43, is in the advanced stages of motor neurone disease and her life expectancy is described as very poor.
Suicide is not a crime in England, but assisting a suicide is.
The court decided unanimously that Britain's refusal to allow her assisted suicide did not violate any of the terms of the European Convention on Human Rights.
