One dead after night of Dublin violence

A man died and five other people were injured in three violent incidents in Dublin overnight. The fatal attack took place in Blanchardstown, in West Dublin.

A row broke out in the Blanchardstown Shopping Centre just after midnight and continued into the Sheepmoor Grove housing estate, where two men were assaulted.

It is understood that four people set upon two brothers. Iron bars were used in the row and one of the men suffered a serious head injury. 28-year-old John Murphy of Carne Court, Hartstown, was pronounced dead at James Connolly Memorial Hospital at 3.40am. His brother is said to be in a stable condition.

In a separate incident, also in Blanchardstown, a man was shot in the stomach at the Corduff Shopping Centre at around 1.00am this morning. His condition is said to be stable.

In the city centre, two men and a woman were injured in a stabbing incident in a public house on Bolton Street. Their injuries are not said to be life-threatening.
