The North's Chief Constable, Sir Ronnie Flanagan, is to be appointed as an Inspector of Constabulary. The British Home Secretary has announced Sir Ronnie will take on responsibility for inspecting forces in the eastern region of England and Wales.
Responding to today's announcement, the Northern Secretary has said he is delighted. Describing the appointment as a tribute to Sir Ronnie's leadership, Dr John Reid said the Chief Constable had been totally committed to managing the unprecedented change process within policing in Northern Ireland as set out in the Patten Report.
Sir Ronnie is due to retire as Chief Constable at the end of this month and the North's Policing Board is to meet tomorrow to discuss the process for appointing his successor.
