Three Irishmen being detained in Colombia on suspicion of training left-wing rebel forces may face trial within a month. Niall Connolly, James Monaghan and Martin McAuley were arrested last August.
The Colombian attorney general's office has confirmed that prosecutors sent their case against the men to a federal judge yesterday. The men, who deny the allegations, are appealing the prosecutor's decision. If a court overrules that appeal a trial date will be set.
A spokesperson for the Bring Them Home Campaign described the news as a "travesty of justice". Caitriona Ruane said that the three men had not received a fair legal process from the day and hour they were arrested.
