Court hears of undisclosed Lawlor payments

Lawyers have told the High Court that there has been "a significant and continued failure" on the part of Liam Lawlor to meet his obligations to the Flood Tribunal.

The Tribunal and Mr Lawlor returned to the courts this afternoon to allow Mr Justice Thomas Smith to review Mr Lawlor's co-operation with the Tribunal.

The Tribunal’s legal representatives believe that Mr Lawlor could face jail for a third time if the court finds that he is still not co-operating.

Today’s hearing was the fourth opportunity given to the Dublin West TD to rectify matters, but he failed to do so again. Nine areas were outlined where Mr Lawlor had failed to provide the Tribunal with information. The court was urged to take an even more serious view of the situation.

New information concerning Mr Lawlor emerged in today’s proceedings.

This included several previously undisclosed Irish bank accounts containing £322,000, fresh evidence of a payment of £350,000 from the solicitor John Caldwell, as well as previously unrevealed payments totalling £50,000 from the property developer Sean Mulryan.

Mr Lawlor was not present at the start of today’s hearing, even though he was seen having lunch nearby. He only appeared in the courtroom after the judge ordered him to do so.
