Sir Ronnie Flanagan has strongly rejected criticism of him by the Police Ombudsman, Nuala O’Loan, in her report on the Omagh bombing investigation.
Ms O'Loan's report, released last month, said Sir Ronnie's judgement was flawed and that the RUC had intelligence about a planned attack on the County Tyrone town eleven days before the Real IRA bombing.
A document from the Northern Chief Constable, circulated today to members of the North’s Police Board, described the ombudsman’s report as unfair.
It says the Ombudsman's report amounts to, in the Chief Constable’s case, a complete denial of natural justice.
The document states the Chief Constable was denied a fair and reasonable opportunity to make a fair and considered response.
Mr Flanagan is due to meet relatives of the Omagh Bomb victims tomorrow, many of whom are said to be unhappy with the police investigation so far.
