Further rioting in North Belfast

There has been more rioting in North Belfast tonight between rival gangs of Catholic and Protestant youths.

A car was set on fire and barricades erected as trouble flared in the Shore Road, Mill Road and Greencastle areas.

The gangs also attacked police and firemen with petrol bombs as the latter tried to put out a housefire.

The home of a Protestant pensioner in the Whitewell area was seriously damaged by fire when demonstrators hurled a petrol bomb through the window. The man was not at home at the time of the attack.
