There has been a dramatic increase in the number of violent attacks on people according to the latest garda report issued this evening.
The Annual Crime Report for the year 2000 shows that assaults causing bodily harm increased by over 130% on the previous year, while the number of murders and manslaughters were also up on 1999.
However, the report shows burglaries, armed robberies and thefts from cars were down.
The report also indicates that there were six rapes per week and four serious drugs offences for every day of the year 2000.
