A key prosecution witness has retracted his evidence in the trial of Omagh bombing suspect Colm Murphy.
Terence Morgan, Mr Murphy's cousin, said in his sworn evidence last November that he had lent his mobile phone to Mr Murphy the day before the Omagh bombing. Today, Mr Morgan said that this was untrue and that he had never lent him his phone.
The court heard that Mr Morgan had come to retract his evidence because he couldn't sleep and this was on his conscience. Mr Murphy is the only man to have been charged in connection with the Omagh bombing.
The prosecution case is that Mr Murphy, from Jordan's Corner, Ravensvale, lent aid in the form of two mobile phones to those who carried out the Omagh bombing.
Mr Morgan has concluded his evidence. The defence has now resumed their closing speech. The impact of Mr Morgan's two conflicting accounts, both given on oath in court, will have to be weighed and assessed by the three presiding judges in arriving at their verdict.
