Gardaí have identified the man who was shot dead in Tallaght in Dublin yesterday evening. However, they are not releasing his name until all relatives have been informed.
The man was 48 and was originally from Ballyfermot, although he had been living in Tallaght for some time. Two men and a woman, who were arrested last night, are still being detained.
Gardai recovered a number of firearms at a house in Tallaght. Gardaí say that they are following a definite line of enquiry. A post mortem examination has been carried out on the dead man.
His body was found on the Old Blessington Road shortly after seven o'clock last night. It is thought he was shot three times at close range as he walked down the street. Gardaí think that a handgun was used in the attack and that there was a single gunman involved.
However, it is believed that he made his getaway in a silver coloured Peugeot car, which contained at least three people. The scene was preserved by the Garda Technical Bureau. Gardaí say that there were witnesses to the incident and that they are helping with the investigation.
