The Channel Tunnel was closed for several hours yesterday after an attempt by some 150 asylum seekers to cross it illegally. They were attempting to cross from France to Britain.
The group broke through barriers on the French side of the tunnel shortly after eight o'clock last night.
It is believed the group was taking advantage of the lack of train traffic through the tunnel on Christmas Day to try to walk the 25 miles to Britain undetected.
The tunnel has now re-opened.
