The ongoing controversy over the troubled Irish Museum of Modern Art has taken a new twist today. A report in the Irish Times says that no fewer than four approaches were made to the former chairwoman of the museum over the appointment of a new director.
All four approaches suggested that one particular candidate would be unacceptable to the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands, Síle de Valera.
The Fine Gael arts and heritage spokesman, Dinny McGinley, has now called on Minister de Valera to clarify whether she deliberately misled the Dáil last week when she denied any involvement in the row over the selection of a new director for the IMMA.
In a statement, he said that there had been scandalous interference with an independent board and he called on the Minister to answer questions on the controversy and to clarify her Dáil statement of 12 December.
