The United States government has issued a new warning of possible threats against American targets over the next two weeks.
The Director of Homeland Security, Tom Ridge, said that US officials have received credible but not specific threats of new terrorist attacks. He said that the government were placing Americans and their law-enforcement community on high alert.
The last alert was issued on 29 October, the second such warning issued in the wake of the 11 September terrorist attacks. There has been some criticism of the government for issuing general warnings without providing details on when or where they might occur.
