Castlerea prisoner escapes from hospital

A prisoner from Castlerea jail has escaped. The man, who was being treated at Roscommon Hospital since yesterday, escaped through a window earlier this evening.

It is understood he made his getaway in a car taken from outside the hospital.

The prisoner, who was on remand on theft-related charges, was under escort at the time. Gardaí were notified immediately and an investigation is underway by the prison governor.
