The Chairwoman of the Irish Museum of Modern Art has tendered her resignation. Marie Donnelly said, in a letter to Arts Minister Síle de Valera, that she was resigning due to the publicity surrounding the selection of Dr Brian Kennedy as Director of IMMA.
Marie Donnolly was appointed Chairwoman by Minister de Valera last year. She was embroiled in a public controversy earlier this year when she advised the then director, Declan McGonagle that she was advertising his post. After four months he won a renewal of his contract, but he then resigned.
Two members of the IMMA board, Terry Prone and Niall Crowley, resigned earlier this week after Ms Donnolly proposed the selection of Dr Kennedy as IMMA Director. Last night, Dr Kennedy announced that he was turning down the offer of the job.
