Finbarr Ross' prison sentence quashed on appeal

Cork-born financier, Finbarr Ross, has had his two-and-a-half-year prison sentence for deception quashed by the Court of Appeal in Belfast. The finance company run by Mr Ross went bankrupt in 1983, owing £7m to investors, the majority of whom came from Northern Ireland.

Mr Ross, who was convicted in September 2000, had served two years in custody in the United States fighting his extradition and on remand in the North. Leaving court, Mr Ross, who is 54 years old, said he was absolutely delighted with the decision.

He also said that nobody had lost more money than he, and he was sorry for the other investors who had suffered financial loss.
