CAB investigation into Limerick alderman

Limerick City Alderman Michael Kelly has confirmed that members of the Criminal Assets Bureau are investigating his security business. Alderman Kelly, who represents Southill on Limerick Corporation, has run the security firm M&A Kelly for the past ten years.

In recent weeks officers of the CAB have visited his home and office, the home of his brother Anthony, who runs the business with him, his financial controllers' home and his mother's home and seized documents for investigation.

He said that they are also interviewing his clients about alleged demands for cash payments. Alderman Kelly said that he keeps full accounts, and the Revenue Commissioners are fully aware of his affairs. He claims this is part of a campaign to damage him, and stop him from running for the Dáil in Limerick East.

Alderman Kelly who has served time in prison for assault gave up his life of crime on his release from prison, to establish his security business. Gardaí say that their investigation of his business affairs will be complex and exhaustive.
