Temperley accused of gross negligence

Professor Ian Temperley has been accused at the Lindsay Tribunal of being grossly negligent on a series of occasions. It was alleged that his negligence resulted in some of his patients being infected with HIV. Professor Temperley is the doctor leading the treatment of haemophiliacs.

Martin Hayden, Senior Counsel for the Irish Haemophilia Society, submitted that the Professor's decision to go on sabbatical leave at the height of the HIV crisis was tantamount to abandoning his patients at their time of greatest need.
