Teilifís na Gaelige is celebrating its 5th birthday tonight. The Irish language TV station says that it now has a 3% share of the national audience with one viewer in every five tuning in to its programmes each day. This compares with an initial one in 20.
TG4 costs £22 million a year to run; employs a fulltime staff of 60 and supports 300 independent film makers. Its programmes have won a series of international awards since 1996. A new £2 million studio will increase its home produced output next year.
