The world-renowned violinist Isaac Stern has died in New York at the age of 81. The musician, whose career in music has spanned more than six decades, was born in Ukraine but was raised in the United States. Stern began studying music with his mother after they moved to California when he was an infant.
While still in his teens Stern began performing with such prominent musicians as Pierre Monteux and Otto Klemperer. During his long and distinguished career, he carried out many activities beyond the concert stage and was one of the most widely recognised classical music artists in the world.
