The Government has approved a State funeral for Kevin Barry and nine other IRA Volunteers of the War of Independence who were executed in Mountjoy Gaol between 1920 and 1921.
Nine of the bodies are to be reburied in Glasnevin Cemetery, while the body of the tenth, Patrick Maher, will be brought to Limerick for burial there at the request of his family.
The ceremony, on 14 October, will feature a funeral cortege from Mountjoy to the Pro-Cathedral, where a Solemn Requiem Mass will be celebrated. After the mass the cortege will go to Glasnevin Cemetery, where the bodies will be buried with full military honours following an oration by the Taoiseach.
