Gardaí have not yet released the names of the man and young girl found dead in a house in Clonmel, South Tipperary, this afternoon. It is understood that the girl was aged six and the man who was discovered dead beside her was her father. A firearm was found at the scene. Gardaí are investigating whether they were at the centre of an abduction scare some time ago.
Gardaí called at the house on Colville Road at 3.15pm after suspicions were aroused. They left the scene to make further enquiries and as they were approaching the house upon their return, they were concerned about a muffled sound. They forced their way into the house and found the bodies of a middle-aged male and a young child.
The state pathologist, Dr John Harbison, has arrived at the house. Members of the Garda Technical Bureaux have also arrived and have begun to examine the scene.
