Gardaí begin murder hunt following stabbing

Gardaí have begun a murder investigation after an 18-year-old man was killed in a knife attack in Limerick City. The attack happened shortly after midnight today.

Gardaí believe it is linked to another violent assault in the city, which happened ten hours later. Then, a man suffered serious injuries after being beaten with an iron bar.

The 18-year-old died in hospital following the stabbing, which occurred in the Lee Estate, near King John's Castle.

The State Pathologist, Dr John Harbison, will carry out a post-mortem examination today. Gardaí are appealing for witnesses. They have set up an incident room at Mayorstone Garda Station.

In the second incident, the man was seriously injured in an attack in the same area about 10.30am. He is being treated at Limerick Regional Hospital.

Also in Limerick City, Gardaí have arrested four people in connection with the death of a man earlier this month. Anthony Casey, aged 45, died on 12 August, two days after being found with serious head injuries in an alleyway in the City Centre. The two men and two women were arrested this morning and can be held for twelve hours.
