A British woman has begun to take a landmark case in the High Court in London seeking the right to die. Diane Pretty from Luton in Bedfordshire is terminally ill has motor neurone disease.
Ms Pretty is challenging the Director of Public Prosecutions for refusing to rule out prosecuting her husband if he helps her commit suicide. The 42-year-old mother of two has said that her condition has affected her quality of life so badly that she wants to be able to choose when to die.
The DPP has said that he cannot guarantee that her husband would not face criminal prosecution if he helped her take her life.
