The daughter of a woman murdered by the IRA almost 30 years ago wept this evening as she gave up hope of ever finding her mother's remains.
Diggers moved in to rebuild a car park at Templeton Beach in County Louth which was excavated in a search for Jean McConville, who was abducted and murdered in 1972, after she consoled a wounded British soldier outside the family home.
Several family members turned up today to watch the digging in the hope that it may finally unearth some sign of the murdered woman.
Mrs McConville's remains were not found, despite two extensive excavations, including a 50 day dig at Templetown Beach, near Carlingford, County Louth.
The bodies of Eamon Molloy, John McClory and Brian McKinney were found in 1999, after the IRA offered to help in locating missing people.
The remains of five other missing people could not be located during searches in the summer of 1999 and in May last year.
