The black suitcase was discovered by passers-by at Bin's Bridge on the Royal Canal at about 7.10pm this evening. It was slightly submerged in the water. It is thought that the body could have been there for at least three days.

The scene has been preserved for the State pathologist, John Harbison, and the Garda Forensic Unit. Gardaí are checking missing persons' lists to establish the man's identity. They are appealing for anyone with any information to contact Fitzgibbon Street Garda Station on 01 666 8400, or the Garda Confidential Line on 1850 666 111.
