Nevin granted free legal aid for appeal

Catherine Nevin has been granted free legal aid for her appeal against her conviction for the murder of her husband, Tom, at their County Wicklow pub in March, 1996.

She was not in the Court of Criminal Appeal today when it granted her legal aid application. The matter had been put back on previous occasions to allow legal issues in relation to her late husband's estate to be clarified.

Mrs Nevin, who is serving a life sentence in Mountjoy Jail, had been given legal aid for her murder trial. It is understood that substantial grounds of appeal have been lodged on her behalf. An appeal hearing, which could take up to two days, is not expected to take place before the Autumn.
