Man questioned about Rosemary Nelson murder

A man has been arrested in connection with the murder of the human rights lawyer, Rosemary Nelson. The man, who is from County Armagh, was arrested in England. He was taken to Northern Ireland for questioning.

Rosemary Nelson was a well-known civil rights lawyer involved in several high profile cases in the North. She was killed in March 1999, outside her home in Lurgan, County Armagh, when a booby trap bomb exploded underneath her car. At the time, dissident Loyalist paramilitaries were blamed for the killing. Following her murder an investigation was set up, headed by Colin Port, the deputy chief Constable of Norfolk in England.

The 32-year-old man was arrested early this morning in Plymouth in Devon. The suspect, originally from County Armagh, was arrested on suspicion of having committed serious terrorist offences. He was taken back to the North under police guard and is being questioned about Rosemary Nelson's murder. Two men arrested last week in Belfast in connection with the killing have since been released without charge.
