Survivor of royal family massacre speaks of incident

A survivor of the massacre of members of the Nepalese royal family has spoken about the incident. Rajiv Shahi has supported earlier claims that it was the then heir to the throne, Crown Prince Dipendra, who carried out the killings. Mr Shahi, a relative by marriage of the royal family, was speaking at a news conference in the Nepalese capital, Kathmandu.

He said that the prince fired at least two assault rifles at his victims in a room of the royal palace before shooting himself. Mr Shahi said that he did not know what the motive for the shootings was but the prince was drunk at the time. Mr Shahi's testimony is the first eyewitness account of the massacre.
